Surat Diamond Bourse: PM Modi inaugurates worlds largest corporate office

Surat Diamond Bourse: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's largest and modern centre for the international diamond and jewellery business - Surat Diamond Bourse.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, "It will be a global centre for trading both rough and polished diamonds as well as jewellery. Bourse will comprise a state-of-the-art 'Customs Clearance House' for import and export; a jewellery mall for retail jewellery business and a facility for international banking and safe vaults."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the Surat Diamond Bourse as a symbol of 'New India's strength,' saying that the structure reflects the government's resolve and firm determination for the nation's progress.

PM Modi said after the inauguration ceremony said that that from now on, whenever people talk about the Diamond Bourse around the world, the Surat Diamond Bourse will always be mentioned.

"Today one more diamond (Surat Diamond Bourse) has been added to Surat. This diamond is supreme. In front of this diamond, the other big buildings will lose their shine," Prime Minister Modi said, adding, "Surat Diamond Bourse is showcasing the capabilities of Indian design, Indian designers, Indian material and Indian concepts involved here."

"Today, Surat is one of the world's top ten developing cities. Surat's street food, skill development work, and everything else is fantastic. Surat was formerly known as the "Sun City." But today, the people of this city have transformed it into a "Diamond City," the PM added.

He went on to say that students studying environmental sciences and architecture should come to see this amazing structure.

"Students of architecture should be brought here to study the innovative design which has taken place here. Those studying the environment should also visit to take note of the remarkable features of this green building".

Surat is known as the "Diamond City" because it cuts and polishes 90% of the world's diamond supply.

Surat, known as the "Diamond Capital of the World," is also known for the presence of a large number of Textile Industries, Educational Institutions and Research, Law Colleges, SVNIT, and religious sites such as Swami Narayan Temple, Bohra Tombs, and Udvada, among others.
