West Bengal Assembly polls 2026: Mamata Banerjee picks Bhabanipur seat, set for direct showdown with Suvendu Adhikari
The Bhabanipur contest is expected to be closely watched, given the political rivalry between Mamata Banerjee and Adhikari
PTC Web Desk: In a major political development ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that she will contest from Bhabanipur, setting the stage for a high-profile face-off with Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.
The announcement was made by the Trinamool Congress chief while unveiling the party’s candidate list for the upcoming polls, where she will be seeking a fourth consecutive term in office.
The Bhabanipur contest is expected to be closely watched, given the political rivalry between Mamata Banerjee and Adhikari, which has intensified since the last Assembly elections in West Bengal.
Meanwhile, in Nandigram, currently represented by Adhikari, the All India Trinamool Congress has fielded Pabitra Kar, a former BJP panchayat chief who was once considered close to Adhikari. In a swift political turn, Kar rejoined the TMC just minutes before the candidate list was officially released.
