'Will bounce back': Mamata Banerjee signals comeback after poll defeat, alleges central interference in Bengal polls

West Bengal results: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has struck a defiant tone following her party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, asserting that the TMC will regroup and return stronger.

Addressing party workers and the media after the results, Mamata said her party had put up a fierce fight despite the outcome. “We fought like tigers. This is not the end; we will bounce back,” she remarked, while raising serious concerns over what she described as direct interference by the central government during the electoral process.

The TMC supremo also levelled allegations against the BJP, accusing it of misusing central forces to influence the polls. According to her, the deployment of these forces created an atmosphere that impacted the fairness of the elections.

Mamata did not spare the Election Commission of India either, claiming that her party’s battle extended beyond political rivals. She hinted at possible action against the poll body but chose not to disclose details. “We will take steps and fight back, but our strategy will remain confidential for now,” she said.

The outgoing West Bengal CM also expressed concern over reports of TMC workers switching sides under pressure. She suggested that fear and intimidation were forcing some party members to join the BJP, adding that she would not stand in their way if it ensured their safety.

Her remarks come at a time when the TMC is assessing its next course of action after the electoral setback, even as the party leadership signals that it is far from conceding political ground in the state.
