Faridkot school bus accident: Student killed in fatal school van collision on Amritsar-Bathinda Highway; 4 injured
School van collided with a bus heading from Amritsar; and shortly after, a car coming from behind rammed into the bus
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic accident, a student was killed when a school van collided with a private bus on the Amritsar-Bathinda National Highway near Faridkot on Thursday morning. The collision also involved a car, which crashed into the vehicles from behind. The accident claimed the life of a Class 9 student, identified as Ekanoor Thapar, and left the driver and three other students severely injured.
The incident took place near Kaler village, where a van from Shahid Ganj Public School, Mudki, was ferrying students. While crossing the highway, the van collided with a bus heading from Amritsar. Shortly after, a car coming from behind rammed into the bus.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, and a team from the Road Safety Force rushed to the scene. The injured, including students Jashandeep Kaur, Khushveer Kaur, her sister Jasmeen Kaur, and the van driver Balbir Singh, were taken to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital.
The accident caused significant traffic congestion on the highway. It is learnt that one of the injured students was in critical condition.
District Commissioner Vineet Kumar and SSP Dr Pragya Jain visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured. The DC assured that all possible assistance is being provided, while SSP Jain stated that an investigation is underway. Both the van and bus drivers will be questioned, and appropriate action will be taken against the guilty party.
