PTC Web Desk:  The Ludhiana police have arrested a couple in connection with the gruesome murder of a young man, whose dismembered body was discovered in an empty plot near Jalandhar Bypass on Thursday.  The victim, identified as 30-year-old Davinder from Ludhiana’s Bharti Colony, had recently returned from Mumbai. He reportedly spent only about 15 minutes at his home before leaving, after which he went missing. Later, locals found his body cut into several pieces and placed in a drum at an abandoned plot under the Salem Tabri police station area. One half of the body had begun to decompose, while the remaining parts were recovered from the drum.

The Ludhiana police said the accused was the victim's close friend and he committed the crime along with his wife. The disclosure was made during a press conference addressed by the ADCP (Zone 1), Ludhiana.

According to police, the accused Shamsher and the deceased, Davinder Kumar, were close friends and were both addicted to drugs. On the day of the incident, the two consumed drugs together, following which an argument broke out between them. The verbal dispute soon escalated into a physical fight.

During the altercation, Shamsher, who works as a car painter, allegedly attacked Davinder with a sharp weapon available at the spot, killing him on the spot. Later that night, Shamsher and his wife allegedly attempted to dispose of the body to destroy evidence. The body was cut into several pieces, packed into a sack and taken away from the scene.

The police have recovered the weapon used in the crime. The ADCP clarified that the role of the accused’s wife was limited to assisting in disposing of the body. She allegedly helped her husband out of fear, believing that the crime would be exposed.

The police have arrested both accused and initiated further legal proceedings.
