Amritsar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police was shot at by an unidentified person near Bhalla Pind in Amritsar, leaving him seriously injured, the police said. The incident took place while ASI Jaswant Singh was returning towards Ajnala after completing his duty at the Amritsar Police Lines.
According to the preliminary information, he was travelling on his motorcycle when an unidentified person opened fire near Bhalla Pind. A bullet hit him in the head.

Despite sustaining the serious injury, he managed to continue riding and reached Ajnala police station on his motorcycle. Police personnel then rushed him to a hospital in Amritsar for treatment.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Rajasansi police station.
Inspector Gurpreet Singh said the police are investigating the shooting and efforts are underway to identify and trace the person responsible.
The injured ASI's condition is currently reported to be out of danger, according to the police.
