Faridkot Police bust cross-border drug smuggling network: 47 kg heroine seized, foreign-made pistols and 15 cartridges recovered
He said that drugs and weapons smuggled from across the border are often routed through Faridkot to other areas, but strict police action has led to repeated arrests of smugglers.
PTC News Desk: The CIA staff of Faridkot Police has made a major breakthrough by arresting four youths travelling in a Honda City car and recovering 47 kg and 332 grams of heroin, three foreign-made pistols and 15 cartridges.
The accused have been identified as Mangal Singh, a resident of Guddar Panjgrai village in Guru Har Sahai, and Ankush, Sachin alias Sanju, and Anmol Singh, residents of Lamochad Khurd village in Jalalabad.
Police have registered a case against the accused at Sadiq police station under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act, and further investigation is underway. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurbans Singh Bains said that the drugs and weapons had been smuggled from across the border in Pakistan and were meant to be supplied to various locations in the state.
According to the police, in view of the anti-drug campaign and the ongoing Baba Farid Aagman Parv in Faridkot, a police team led by CIA Staff in-charge Hakam Singh had set up a checkpoint near Kauni village on the Sadiq–Deep Singh Wala road.
Around midnight on Saturday, police signalled a car coming from the Deep Singh Wala side to stop. The vehicle halted near the checkpoint, but the occupants allegedly tried to turn back and flee. During the attempt, the car stalled, following which police immediately surrounded and intercepted it.
Nearly 62 kg heroine seized in September
Addressing a press conference, SSP Gurbans Singh Bains said that Faridkot Police had recovered nearly 62 kg of heroin in four major cases during September alone. Thirteen weapons have also been seized during the same period.
He said that drugs and weapons smuggled from across the border are often routed through Faridkot to other areas, but strict police action has led to repeated arrests of smugglers.
Police suspected that a cardboard box kept inside the car contained narcotics. The control room was informed and DSP Avtar Singh Rajpal was called to the spot. During a search conducted under his supervision, police recovered 42 packets of heroin from the box, weighing a total of 47 kg and 332 grams.
Police also recovered three foreign-made .30-bore pistols, along with magazines and 15 cartridges, from an envelope found in the car’s dashboard.
The arrested accused are being questioned, and police are investigating the role of other individuals linked to the drug supply network.
