Sangrur shocker: Woman poisons three children with lovers help, stages murder as death by food poisoning

PTC News Desk: A shocking incident has been reported from the Bhawanigarh area of Sangrur, where a woman allegedly killed her three children with the help of her lover on Raksha Bandhan. She initially tried to make the deaths appear to be a case of food poisoning, but a police investigation reportedly uncovered the alleged murder plot.

Police have arrested the woman, identified as Lovepreet Kaur, while her alleged lover, Harjit Singh, remains absconding. Police teams are conducting raids to trace him.

The incident took place on August 26, on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Three children — six-year-old Jasnoor Kaur, five-year-old Armandeep Singh and two-and-a-half-year-old Rihandeep Singh — died under suspicious circumstances in the Bhawanigarh area.

In her initial statement, Lovepreet reportedly told police that the children died of food poisoning after eating sweets bought from the market.

However, police conducted a discreet and technical investigation and reportedly found evidence suggesting that the deaths were not accidental but allegedly part of a planned killing.

According to the investigation, Lovepreet was allegedly in a relationship with Harjit Singh. After examining the evidence, police arrested her and questioned her, following which the alleged details of the case emerged.

Lover met through Instagram

According to police, Lovepreet first became friends with Harjit Singh on Instagram. Their friendship reportedly developed into a relationship, and they allegedly became close.

Police suspect that the two planned to kill the children because they allegedly considered them an obstacle to living together.

Police allege that Lovepreet and Harjit mixed a poisonous weed-killing chemical, or herbicide, into sweets and gave them to the children.

The children's father, who works as a truck driver and is reportedly from a financially weaker background, approached the police. Acting on his complaint, police investigated the case and arrested Lovepreet.

Samples of the suspected poisoned sweets have been sent for forensic examination. The results are expected to provide further evidence for the investigation and the court proceedings.

Mother arrested, lover absconding

Police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder and arrested Lovepreet Kaur.

Her alleged lover, Harjit Singh, is still absconding. Police teams are conducting raids at different locations to trace and arrest him.
