SGPC forms five-member panel to probe Sri Anandpur Sahib Sarai incident
SGPC has formed a five-member committee to investigate the Sri Anandpur Sahib sarai incident. The panel will submit its report within 15 days
PTC Web Desk: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has constituted a five-member committee to investigate the incident reported at a sarai in Sri Anandpur Sahib. The panel has been asked to submit its findings within 15 days.
SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami announced the inquiry and said the committee would examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and address the questions that have emerged.
The committee comprises Baldev Singh Kaimpur, Gurmeet Singh Booh, Bibi Gurinder Kaur Bholuwala and Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa. SGPC secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan has been appointed as the coordinator.
Advocate Dhami also clarified his position on the matter, saying he had no information about the arrival of the woman who reportedly came from Bahrain. He said she had neither informed him personally about her arrival nor approached him regarding the incident. He described the allegations levelled against him as baseless.
Meanwhile, Giani Malkit Singh, Additional Head Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, who had earlier been suspended, has now been relieved of his services by the SGPC. Advocate Dhami said the decision followed his expulsion from the Sikh community by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
A driver associated with Sri Anandpur Sahib had also been suspended earlier in connection with the matter.
Advocate Dhami further said the resignation submitted by SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla has been accepted with immediate effect.
According to the SGPC president, secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan was assigned to conduct a preliminary inquiry on the day the matter came to light. The newly constituted committee will now carry out a detailed examination, with its report expected within 15 days.
Advocate Dhami said further questions surrounding the incident would be addressed after the committee submits its findings.
The matter has also led to action by the five Singh Sahibs, who reportedly expelled Amarjit Singh Chawla and Giani Malkit Singh from the Sikh community and appealed to the Sikh sangat to maintain no association with them.
