Users face issue registering on CoWIN app; Centre issues clarification

While the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination in India started on Monday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a clarification on CoWIN app where people were looking to register themselves for the COVID-19 vaccine.

A Twitter user wrote: "Issues with the Cowin app. The OTP isn’t coming and when I was able to register parents it logged me out and I wasn’t able to schedule appointments." Likewise, there have been several queries by people who failed to register themselves via CoWin app.

The Union Health Ministry stated that the registration and booking for an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine are to be done through CoWIN portal: cowin.gov.in.

"There is no CoWIN App for beneficiary registration. The App on Play Store is for administrators only," the Health Ministry stated.

With the beginning of COVID-19 Vaccination in India of the elderly, 45+ with comorbidities, India is set to enter a decisive phase in its fight against COVID-19, the Ministry added.

It further said that if you are eligible for the vaccination, then register on Co-WIN 2.0 by visiting http://cowin.gov.in.

Covishield and Covaxin are two COVID-19 vaccines that will be used in the largest vaccination drive. So far, around 1.42 crore people have been vaccinated in the country.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"PM Narendra Modi has always led from the front in encouraging Indian doctors and scientists. Today he took the first shot of India-made COVAXIN at AIIMS," said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
