PTC Web Desk: Supporters of activist Sonam Wangchuk held demonstrations in several international cities, including New York, San Jose, London and Dublin, to express solidarity with his ongoing hunger strike over the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination process.

The protests were organised by the US-based advocacy group Hindus for Human Rights, which said the demonstrations were aimed at urging the Indian government to respond to the concerns raised by Wangchuk and other protesters.

Demonstrations held in multiple cities

In New York, activists gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Union Square, carrying placards in support of Wangchuk. Similar protests were organised in San Jose, while supporters also demonstrated outside the Indian High Commission in London and the Indian Embassy in Dublin. The protesters raised slogans seeking greater accountability from the government and called for reforms in the education system. Some demonstrators also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Advocacy group calls for dialogue

In a statement, Hindus for Human Rights said the demonstrations reflected growing concerns over the treatment of students and called for transparency in addressing the issues linked to the NEET controversy.

The organisation said students deserve fairness, honest answers and reforms that strengthen public trust in the education system. It also urged the Indian government to engage in dialogue with Wangchuk and other protesters.

Wangchuk's health remains a concern

Sonam Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi. On Saturday, the Delhi Police shifted him from the protest site at Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital after his health reportedly deteriorated following more than three weeks of fasting. He was later moved to a private hospital after directions from the Delhi High Court.
