Thailand school shooting: A shooting at a high school in Thailand's Nonthaburi province, located just northwest of Bangkok, left at least four persons dead and around 10 students injured on Friday, according to Thai authorities and local media.

The attack took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district. The police identified the suspected shooter as a student, though officials have not yet released further details about the motive or the circumstances leading to the incident.

At least four confirmed dead

Thailand's Education Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong confirmed that the death toll has risen to four. Those killed include both teachers and students. Earlier reports from local broadcaster Thai PBS said between 10 and 15 persons had been injured in the shooting. Emergency responders rushed to the school as students were evacuated from the campus.

Images from the scene showed ambulances parked outside the school while medical teams treated the injured and transported victims to nearby hospitals.

Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan confirmed to The Associated Press that the shooting occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, but have not yet disclosed additional details about the suspect, possible motive or whether the shooter has been taken into custody.

Education Minister orders immediate response

Following the attack, Thailand's Education Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong directed all agencies under the Ministry of Education to coordinate closely with emergency services and local authorities. In a statement posted on X, the minister said the safety of students, teachers and school staff was the government's top priority. He also instructed officials to provide immediate medical, psychological and other necessary support to everyone affected by the tragedy.

The minister appealed to the public and media outlets not to circulate graphic images, videos or unverified information related to the shooting. He said sharing such content could violate the privacy of victims and their families while causing additional emotional distress.

He also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the attack.

Thailand continues to face concerns over gun violence

Thailand has one of the highest levels of civilian gun ownership in Southeast Asia. An estimated 10 million firearms are believed to be in circulation across the country, roughly equal to one firearm for every seven residents. The latest school shooting comes months after another gun attack at a school in Hat Yai district in southern Thailand, where a teacher was killed and a student was injured.
