Any COVID-19 vaccine approved by FDA, WHO can come to India: Centre

Coronavirus India: In an order to boost the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination in the country, Dr. VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, on Thursday said that any COVID-19 vaccine approved by FDA and WHO can come to India. He said that "Import license will be granted within 1-2 days while no import license was pending." The Department of Biotechnology, other concerned departments, the Ministry of External Affairs have been in touch with Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson, and Johnson from the beginning, he said. Adding, he said that they were officially asked if they'd like to send doses to or manufacture in India, we'll find partners and assist. "They had said that they are working in their own way and they would talk of vaccine availability in Q3, in 2021," he said, adding that "I'm hopeful that they'll step forward to increase availability in India." He further said that "We invite them to manufacture here along with our companies. Johnson and Johnson did a good job, they accepted this offer under Quad." Coronavirus India: To boost ongoing COVID-19 vaccination, Dr. VK Paul, said that any COVID-19 vaccine approved by FDA, WHO can come to India. Overall, 216 crore doses of vaccines will be manufactured in India between August-December for India and for Indians, he said. Adding, Paul said that there should be no doubt that vaccine will be available for all as we move forward. Meanwhile, he said that people were saying that Covaxin should be given to other companies for manufacturing. "I am happy to say that Covaxin manufacturing company (Bharat Biotech) has welcomed this when we discussed it with them. Under this, vaccine live virus is inactivated and this is done only in BSL3 labs," he said. "Not every company has this. We give an open invitation to companies who want to do this.
