Bappi Lahiri Last Rites: Singer-composer cremated, nation mourns

Bollywood singer and composer Bappi Lahiri passed away at the age of 69. The legendary singer's final rites were performed Thursday morning after the family, friends and fans of Bappi Da paid their last respects. The pictures of the signer's mortal remains being brought to the crematorium also surfaced on the internet, ahead of his final rites. Bappi Lahiri's last rites took place at around 12.50 pm at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle on Thursday. The family had delayed the funeral as they awaited the arrival of his son, Bappa from the US. Meanwhile, the family members were devastated by the loss of the veteran singer-composer and his wife and daughter Rema are inconsolable. Bappi Lahiri's last rites performed The news of Disco King’s demise was shared by the family on Wednesday after he breathed his last on late Tuesday (February 15). "India has lost another icon. Your contribution to the Indian music industry & Cinema has been incomparable. I was fortunate to have worked with you during Ghayal & the legacy that you've created will forever live on. My heartfelt condolences to the family. Om Shanti #Bappilahiri," he tweeted. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan also paid an emotional tribute to the late Bappi Lahiri. Bachchan, on his personal blog, recalled how once Bappi Da had told him that his film will be successful at the airport. "His songs of films with me are and shall I believe remain eternal .. they are played hummed sung along in these modern generation times with alacrity and rejoice .. and the ability of his sense of success with a particular moment, untethered .. checking in to board a flight at Heathrow from London to home and a gentle tap on your shoulder," wrote Amitabh Bachchan. The singer had been battling OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) since 2021, his doctor said. Bappi Lahiri's last rites performed "He had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home, following which he was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) last night," Dr Deepak Namjoshi said. Bappi Lahiri was hospitalised in April last year as well after he had tested positive for coronavirus.
