Chandigarh: Accidental gunshots fired in Elante mall parking, probe underway
PTC News Desk: A gunshot was fired by a valet driver in the parking of Nexus Elante Mall on Tuesday Evening. During the preliminary investigation, police has claimed that it was a case of accidental firing.
According to the reports, the incident unfolded when two persons from Mohali visited the Nexa showroom at Elante Offices in the Industrial Area, Chandigarh. They handed over their car to the dealership’s valet driver, Sahil, for parking.
Unversed with the fact that the car contained a licensed firearm, Sahil picked up the firearm out of curiosity that triggered a gunshot and the bullet hit another car in the parking lot. Soon after the incident, an alarm was raised, and the police were informed. The local police reached the spot along with a CFSL team and initiated an investigation.
A police official said, “We have initiated a probe and will take action as per law against the man who fired the gunshot.”
Meanwhile, Elante Mall, in an official statement, said, “We are aware of the recent incident involving a valet driver at the Nexa showroom, where he accidentally discharged a pistol in the parking lot. We would like to clarify that while this incident took place in an allotted parking space for Nexa, the mall itself is in no way connected to the events that unfolded.”
