Chandigarh reports first Covid death as 40-year-old man succumbs to infection at Sector 32 hospital
PTC News Desk: In a significant development, a 40-year-old man from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh passed away at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, early on Wednesday morning.
The hospital authorities have not ascertained the variant of the infection.
The patient had tested positive for Covid and subsequently referred to GMCH from Ludhiana. He was admitted to the Covid area of the hospital, where he was kept in isolation. As the authorities maintain that there was no immediate cause of concern owing to the infection, the latest death related to Covid marks serious development.
The health authorities are likely to intensify monitoring in order to mitigate the spread of the infections.
As the latest case comes to the fore, the city has reported first case and death due to the infection.
GMCH-32 director Dr Ashok Atri had earlier said that all necessary data had been submitted in the required format and that the patient was being closely monitored.
