Chandigarh: 70 percent of samples sent by PGIMER shows UK variant
UK COVID-19 variant in Chandigarh: The UK variant of Covid-19 was detected in 70 percent of 60 samples sent to the National Centre for Diseases Control, the PGIMER said in a statement.
The PGIMER stated that “70 percent of the samples had UK variant of Covid-19 while 20 percent of the samples had 681 H mutant.

Adding, the PGIMER Director said that the majority of the samples were from Chandigarh.
According to the information, the PGIMER's Virology Department had sent 60 positive samples of Covid-19 to the National Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC), New Delhi in March.

70 percent of these samples from Chandigarh had a UK variant of Covid-19 while one of the samples had a double mutation. Meanwhile, 20 per cent of the samples were 681H mutant of Covid-19.
The Director said that considering the high transmission of Covid-19 by the UK variant, people must follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
He further advised people to avoid crowded places and non-essential travels. Even as he asserted the need for vaccination.
Chandigarh on Thursday recorded 412 new cases of coronavirus, taking the total count to 32,397.
