Cong govt encouraging elements whose sole aim is to disturb the peace of Punjab - Sukhbir Badal. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal said peace and communal harmony was in danger in Punjab with the Congress government encouraging elements whose sole aim was to disturb its hard won peace. In a statement here, the SAD president said the law and order situation had deteriorated immediately after the Congress government came into power in the State. “What started as vendetta killings of Akali leaders soon spread to sensational murders and dacoities and even targeted killings of religious heads like a Christian Pastor and Hindu leaders. Today we have witnessed an attack in Amritsar”. Stating that all this was due to complete break down in law and order, he said the Congress government made things worse by encouraging divisive elements. “This sent out a very wrong message and has seen peace take a beating as was witnessed in the Maqsudan bomb blast as well as busting of heinous conspiracy to assassinate five times CM S Parkash SIngh Badal by the Uttar Pradesh police. Even my cavalcade was attacked in Sangrur but instead of taking decisive action in the matter, the case against the accused has been withdrawn”. Stating that such incidents had made a return to Punjab after a decade, Mr Badal said the government should not pander to divisive elements and not encourage them in any way. “It is the State’s responsibility to maintain peace under all circumstances. Maintaining peace and communal harmony was like a mission for S Parkash SIngh Badal during his ten year stewardship of the State. Unfortunately the present Congress government, like its predecessors in the past, thinks politics weigh over peace. It is this thought which took Punjab into a dark era earlier. The present government needs to eschew this policy permanently for lasting peace in the State”. Mr Badal said it was worrying that the Congress government was found wanting in its duty to maintain peace in the State. He said even the army chief had recently reminded the Punjab government to be vigilant on this score. “We have also witnessed how funds from abroad are being channelised into Punjab to create disturbances. The government must take concrete steps to stop such activities and thwart nefarious elements from succeeding in their evil designs”. -PTC News
