Coronavirus positive cases in India rise to 1,12,359; death toll 3,435

The total number of coronavirus (COVID 19) cases in India has increased to 1,12,359 after 5,609 new positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as of Thursday morning. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the death toll has increased to 3,435 after 132 new deaths were reported from the country in the last 24 hours. The Health Ministry was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: "Spike of 5,609 COVID-19 cases and 132 deaths in the last 24 hours. A total number of cases in the country now at 1,12,359, including 63,624 active cases and 3,435 deaths." Of the total cases, 63,624 are active cases while 45,300 patients have defeated now and discharged. Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country with 39,297 cases followed by Tamil Nadu at 13,191, Gujarat at 12,537, and Delhi at 11,088 cases. The nationwide lockdown imposed as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of coronavirus has been extended till May 31.
