Crackdown on drinking in public: Chandigarh police arrests 590 people in 3 months During a special drive in order to crackdown on consumption of liquor in public areas, the Chandigarh Police has arrested 590 people in three months, from June 1 to August 30. Out of these 590 people, 298 people have already been convicted by the court and as a fine for violating the city's rules and regulations Rs 4.50 lakh had been imposed them. The police has also seized 40 four-wheelers in which the perpetrators were consuming alcohol and also 10 two-wheelers in the past three months. According to a report by the Times of India, maximum number of these arrests were done from Sector 17 police station. In which 56 cases were registered, and 68 people were arrested by Sector 17 police station. Meanwhile, out 68 arrested the court has already convicted 27 till date. Also, the Sector 26 police station have registered 51 separate cases and arrested 55 people. The Manimajra and Maulijagran police station have registered 50 cases each and they have arrested 50 and 63 people respectively. -PTC News
