In view of the current situation of coronavirus in the national capital, the Delhi government has decided to reopen the schools in a phased manner, sources said on Friday.
Now, the Delhi schools will reopen from September 1 in a phased manner. Schools for classes 9 to 12 will begin from September 1 while classes for 6th to 8th will begin from September 8.
According to information, the decision was taken at the meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had earlier told that the government was considering the reopening of schools as early as possible, however, the final decision would be taken only after consulting all the stakeholders.
The schools in the national capital were closed last year in March due to a nationwide lockdown in an order to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Several states started partial reopening of schools in October 2020. However, the Delhi government allowed physical classes only for Classes 9-12 in January 2021.
These classes were also suspended following the surge in coronavirus cases during the devastating second wave in Delhi.
Currently, students of only Classes 10, 11, and 12 can visit schools that too with the consent of parents for admission and board exam-related activities.
Meanwhile, several states are reopening schools amid the threat of a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
