Double setback: HC recuses from hearing Bikram Majithia's bail case; gives no relief to Dr Vijay Singla

Mohali, July 4: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday opened after a month-long summer break. Among other things, two most politically sensitive cases — pleas filed by former ministers Dr Vijay Singla of the AAP and Bikram Singh Majithia of the SAD, came up for hearing. When the case of SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia came up for hearing, the Double Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court recused from hearing the same and said the matter would be heard again from the beginning. SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia Majithia had approached the HC on May 23 stating that "there has been no credible and legally admissible material against him." "The case is blatantly political in nature and has been registered after an inordinate delay with the purpose of using the same as an election plank in the assembly polls of February 2022,” he had further argued. However, when the matter came up for hearing on Monday, the court refused to take up the case and and mentioned that "the hearing of the case will start afresh". Now, the Chief Justice will decide which Bench would take up this matter. Earlier, the matter was reserved by the Division Bench of Justices AG Masih and Sandeep Moudgil. On the other hand, arrested by the Punjab Police in a corruption case, former Punjab Health Minister in the AAP-led Punjab Government Dr Vijay Singla had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking a regular bail. Earlier, when the court asked the public prosecutor "if he opposes Singla's bail", the lawyer remained silent for a few seconds. After this, the lawyer said "he would have to take instructions". Vijay Singla's lawyer Vinod Ghai alleged that Dr Vijay Singla had been implicated in a false case. "Someone levelled allegations against him and implicated him in a false case. However, there has been no recovery from my client," he added. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="750"]Punjab and Haryana High Court Punjab and Haryana High Court[/caption] -PTC News
