PTC Web Desk: In a tragic turn of events, popular Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run case that led to the death of a 21-year-old student, Samiul Haque. The incident, which occurred late on July 25 in the Udalbakra locality of Guwahati, claimed the life of the Nalbari Polytechnic student, who was working with a Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) team at the time.

She was taken into custody around 1.30 am on Wednesday from the rehearsal venue of Rajdhani Theatre in North Guwahati. She was subsequently brought to Dispur Police Station for further legal formalities.

Confirming the arrest, Guwahati DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora stated that the actress faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), including BNS Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and BNSS 125B for causing death in a hit-and-run. Both charges are non-bailable.

According to officials, Nandini Kashyap was allegedly behind the wheel of a speeding Bolero SUV that fatally struck Samiul, who was assisting in the repair of streetlights. Witnesses reported that the vehicle did not stop after the collision.

After initial treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Samiul was taken to Apollo Hospital as his condition worsened. Despite all efforts, he passed away on July 29 due to severe head injuries and multiple fractures.

GMC colleagues of the deceased reportedly pursued the fleeing vehicle and tracked it to an apartment in Kahilipara, where the actress allegedly tried to hide the SUV. In a disturbing twist, she is also accused of assaulting a bystander who attempted to film the situation.

The police have impounded two of Nandini Kashyap’s vehicles and sent them for forensic analysis. Additionally, CCTV footage from the vicinity is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
