Oscar 2024: Emma Stone clinches Best Actress award for 'Poor Things'

PTC News Desk: Emma Stone triumphs at the 96th Academy Awards, earning Best Actress for her role in 'Poor Things'. The film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, features Stone as Bella Baxter, a character created from a child's brain implanted into an adult's body, navigating controversial themes of sex and nudity.

Competing against strong contenders like Lily Gladstone, Sandra Hüller, and Carey Mulligan, Stone secures her second Best Actress win after her 2017 victory for 'La La Land'. Despite a wardrobe malfunction during her acceptance speech, Stone graciously acknowledges her fellow nominees and expresses gratitude to the film's team.

'Poor Things' also receives Oscars for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Stone's stellar performance, hailed by critics, cements her status among esteemed double Best Actress Oscar winners.

In her emotional speech, Stone thanks her family and dedicates the award to her daughter, encapsulating the overwhelming joy of her monumental win.

What Emma said in her speech

In her speech, Emma Stone addressed her wardrobe malfunction, stating, "My dress is broken; I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,' I’m pretty sure," referencing Ryan Gosling's performance moments earlier. She emphasized the collective effort in filmmaking, saying, “The other night I was panicking... that maybe something like this could happen... It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts."

Expressing gratitude, she thanked her family, including her daughter who turns three soon, and concluded with a humorous remark about her dress. Emma's win came amidst tough competition, including Lily Gladstone, Annette Bening, Sandra Huller, and Carey Mulligan, marking her second Oscar win in the category after La La Land.
