Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make history as Indian Cinema gets first-ever representation at Republic Day Parade
PTC Web Desk: Indian cinema is set to script a historic first at the Republic Day parade, with celebrated filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali representing the film industry on Kartavya Path this year. According to a report, Bhansali will present a special tableau dedicated to the journey and legacy of Indian cinema, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The tableau, to be showcased during the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, marks the first time that Indian cinema will be formally represented at the parade by a filmmaker. The initiative is being seen as a landmark moment for the country’s film industry, highlighting its cultural influence and global reach.
The tableau is expected to celebrate the evolution of Indian cinema, its artistic richness and its contribution to the nation’s cultural identity. Alongside this cinematic tribute, Oscar-winning music composer MM Keeravani will also be part of the Republic Day celebrations, presenting a new rendition of Vande Mataram, adding to the historic significance of the event for the arts community.
Bhansali, who made his directorial debut with Khamoshi: The Musical in 1996, has built an illustrious career as a director, producer, screenwriter, editor and music composer. He has delivered critically and commercially acclaimed films such as 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Devdas' and 'Black', the latter earning him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. His later works, including 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela', 'Bajirao Mastani', 'Padmaavat' and 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', further cemented his reputation as one of Indian cinema’s most influential filmmakers.
In recognition of his contribution to the arts, Bhansali was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015. He also recently made his OTT debut with 'Heeramandi', expanding his creative footprint across platforms.
On the professional front, the filmmaker is currently working on his upcoming film 'Love & War', starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The project is being keenly watched by the industry and audiences alike, given Bhansali’s reputation for mounting large-scale, emotionally driven cinema.
