Farmers break barricades at Chandigarh-Mohali border, march towards Raj Bhawan

Farmers' protest: Police resorted to water cannon to disperse the protesting farmers who broke barricades at the Chandigarh-Mohali border and started marching towards the Raj Bhawan. Observing “Kheti bachao, loktantra bachao” diwas, farmers are marching towards the Governor's residence to submit a memorandum seeking repeal of new farm laws. However, the protestors started marching towards the Raj Bhawan breaking barricades and facing water cannons. Earlier, the Punjab farmers gathered at Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali, while those from Haryana gathered at Gurdwara Nada Sahib in Panchkula. The SKM leader Yogendra Yadav had said the farmers would hold a protest march peacefully from Gurdwara Nada Sahib to the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh. It may be recalled that there have been no talks between the Centre and farmers after Republic Day violence in Delhi. Farmers have been protesting against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. -PTC News
