In a first, Sikh lawmaker becomes parliamentary secretary in Pakistan
In an exemplary display of communal harmony and religious bonhomie a provincial government in Pakistan on Wednesday decided to appoint Parliamentary Secretary belonging the minority Sikh community.

For the first time in the history of Pakistan, Sardar Mohinder Pal Singh, is being appointed a Parliamentary Secretary in Punjab. An official announcement to this effect will be made in a couple of days.

Briefing the media, Sardar Mahinder Pal Singh said that the decision was a reflection of the fact that minorities were enjoying full freedom and rights in Pakistan. He also referred to the number of positions which were taken by the people belonging to other minorities group. Recently a Hindu woman was appointed a civil judge in Sindh. On January 12, the provincial government appointed a Sikh as a Public Relations Officer to Punjab Governor.

According to media reports, Sardar Mahinder Pal Singh had been making waves in the Punjab Assembly even before undertaking this position. He was dressed in a white and green turban for his oath-taking ceremony.
