Goa Assembly Elections 2022: As many as 20 people have been booked for violating Covid-19 norms during the poll campaigning, said District Magistrate South Goa assuring that all Covid guidelines are being followed in the poll-bound state. This comes days after the Election Commission of India extended the ban on physical rallies and roadshows until January 31. "ECI has relaxed norms and allowed indoor meetings of a maximum 300 people, or 50 percent capacity of the meeting hall, or limits prescribed by state disaster management authorities," said Collector and District Magistrate South Goa, IAS Ruchika Katyal. Instead of five persons, now 10 persons, excluding security personnel, will be allowed," she added. She further said that "we have been following the guidelines strictly. Till now, in North Goa, 11 cases have been registered and 9 cases have been registered in South Goa for violating Covid norms while being involved in election campaigning related activities." The Election Commission of India on Saturday extended the ban on physical rallies and roadshows until January 31 due to an increase in Covid-19 cases, according to a press release from the Election Commission. According to the statement, the Election Commission has increased the number of people who can participate in a door-to-door campaign from five to ten. Meanwhile, with Covid-19 restrictions, the commission has allowed video vans to be used for publicity at designated open spaces. The decision came after the Election Commission of India met with the Union Health Secretary and the Chief Health Secretaries of the five poll-bound states earlier in the day to discuss the ban on political parties holding physical roadshows and rallies ahead of Assembly elections.
