Gurdas Singh Badal, father of Punjab FM Manpreet Badal, passes away
Former MP Gurdas Singh Badal, the father of Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal and brother of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, passed away around midnight following a cardiac arrest. He had been unwell for a while and was admitted to the Fortis hospital in Mohali. Earlier, Gurdas Badal's wife Harmandir Kaur had passed away on March 19 this year in Badal village.
Meanwhile, Manpreet Singh Badal took to Twitter and wrote: "It is with great sorrow that I inform about the demise of my father S.Gurdas Singh Badal. He passed away last night at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He was 90. His health had started deteriorating after my mother’s death in March & he was on the life support system for the past few days." In another tweet, he wrote: "Keeping in view the current pandemic, we will like to request all friends and well-wishers to refrain from attending the funeral ceremony which will be held in our ancestral village."
Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal said in a tweet: "Profoundly pained at the passing away of my chacha Ji S. Gurdas Singh Badal Ji. It's a huge loss to our family, especially to my father S. Parkash Singh Badal Ji. This void will never be filled. May Gurusahib grant peace to departed soul & strength to Manpreet & everyone in the family."

Likewise, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said, "Deeply saddened at the passing away of our beloved Chacha Ji S. Gurdas Singh Badal Ji. His kindness, warmth, and humility will always be missed. May Gurusahib grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to all in the family to withstand this tragic loss."

Punjab CM took to Twiter and wrote: "Deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of S. Gurdas Singh Badal. Join my colleague Manpreet Badal and the family in this moment of grief. May the Almighty grant liberation to the departed soul. Rest in peace!"
