Youth Olympic Games: Haryana girl Manu Bhaker wins gold in 10 m Air Pistol Young shooting prodigy from Haryana 16-year-old Manu Bhaker gave India its first ever gold in shooting in Youth Olympic games. Competing in 10 m Air Pistol, Manu Bhaker shot an impressive 236.5 in the final to lift the gold medal ahead of Iana Enina of Russia (235.9) in a tight finish. Manu Bhaker who headed the qualifiers with a score of 576 maintained lead throughout the final though she had some bad patches by shooting as low as 9.1 and 9.3. However, her best of 10.8 and some consistency in hitting the bull's eye helped her to stay as leader in the final round.Though her Russian opponent shot 10.7 and 10.5 in the final elimination for gold, Manu with her score of 10.1 and 10.2 had her earlier lead come handy for her to lift the gold medal. Manu Bhaker, who drew a blank in the just concluded Asian Games in Jakarta, however, had kept the surprise for the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games helping India get its first ever shooting gold in the Games for the youth. Incidentally she is also the first female athlete to win a gold in Youth Olympic Games for India. With her gold medal, India's tally stood at two gold and three silver medals on Day 3 of the games.
