Haryana: NIT student's death; 5 booked for murder after several months
Several months after the death of a National Institute of Technology (NIT) student in Kurukshetra, police have registered a murder case against five students of the engineering college.
Police said a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against five students.
Ashok Meena, a resident of Rewari, had come to NIT for a re-appear examination and he died under mysterious circumstances, while he was staying in the institute's hostel on December 5 last year.
Despite a protest by his father R K Meena, police had conducted proceedings under Section 174 of the IPC as an accidental death.
R K Meena had lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police and later with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Ambala, alleging that his son's death was not accidental from falling from the roof, but murder.
The IGP, after conducting an enquiry, recommended filing of a murder case in the matter, police said on Thursday.
In view of this, officials of the Adarsh Police Station, Krukshetra University, Wednesday booked five students.
In his complaint, R K Meena had alleged that when he reached the NIT campus, after receiving information that his son has got a head injury, he found all five associates of his son were drunk.
He claimed that his son had never touched liquor, so "I doubted that these students had murdered my son".
Besides, all the five gave contradictory statements regarding the happenings, R K Meena alleged.
"My son had a sharp injuring to his stomach, though the railing did not have any sharp edge from where he was told to have fallen," he said.
R K Meena said that about one hour before they got a phone call about his injury, Ashok had spoke to him and told him that he had done well in the examination and was going to have his dinner.
Station House Officer (SHO), Adarsh Police station, Satish Kumar, said that Section 302 of the IPC has been added in the case against the five students.
He said that the viscera report is still awaited.
Efforts would be made to get viscera report expedited so as to conduct a fresh enquiry in the case, the SHO said. PTI
