Chandigarh, August 1: In a major development in the Sippy Sidhu murder case, High Court Judge Justice Anoop Chitkara on Monday refused to hear the bail plea of accused Kalyani.

Earlier, an affidavit was submitted to the High Court by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the complainant, requesting that Justice Chitkara not hear the matter. It is worth mentioning that Justice Anoop Chitkara, in previous hearing, had ordered all the parties to file affidavits stating whether Justice Chitkara should hear the case or not.

Notably, Justice Chitkara earlier served as an advocate in the Himachal High Court, where the mother of the accused Kalyani has been serving as the Chief Justice.

Earlier, on July 27, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had set August 1 for the hearing of regular bail plea filed by Kalyani Singh in the Sippy Sidhu murder case. The matter was placed before Justice Anoop Chitkara's Bench. Currently, Kalyani Singh is lodged at the Model Jail of Burail, Chandigarh. The CBI arrested her on June 15 after several rounds of questioning.

Kalyani, through her counsel Sartej Singh Narula, had contended in her petition that her arrest was made to show that the CBI, a premier investigating agency, had finally solved a murder case.
