Heidelberg shooting: Gunman opens fire at lecture hall in Germany, several injured
Several people were reportedly injured after a lone gunman opened fire at a lecture hall in Germany's southwestern town of Heidelberg, said the police on Monday. According to reports, the attacker has been killed.
Germany's Mannheim police revealed that a lone attacker with a firearm injured many people at a lecture hall. During the attack, the police allegedly conducted an operation in Heidelberg. Several people were injured incident, reported Sputnik on Monday.
"A lone attacker with a long gun harmed numerous persons in a lecture hall. The assailant is dead," said Mannheim police in a statement.

Germany has been the target of a series of attacks and shootings in recent years, the bulk of which were committed by jihadists or far-right militants. School shootings, on the other hand, are rare in Germany, which has some of the strictest gun laws in Europe.
In 2009, a former student killed nine students, three instructors, and three bystanders in a school shooting in Winnenden, Baden-Württemberg. The shooter then took his own life.
In a 2002 shooting, a 19-year-old former student allegedly after being expelled killed 16 people at a school in Erfurt, Germany. He too committed suicide after the attack.
