Here’s why Anil Vij contracted COVID-19 despite taking vaccine
After Haryana Minister Anil Vij announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19, Bharat Biotech said that the efficacy of coronavirus vaccine candidate "Covaxin" can be determined only 14 days after the second dose.
On November 20, Anil Vij had administered a dose of Covaxin at a hospital in Ambala, as part of its third phase trial.
"The Covaxin clinical trials are based on a 2-dose schedule, given 28 days apart. The vaccine efficacy will be determined 14 days post the 2nd dose. Covaxin has been designed to be efficacious when subjects receive both doses," Bharat Biotech stated while giving a statement on coronavirus vaccine.

"The phase-3 trials are double-blinded and randomized, where 50 percent of subjects (participants in the trial) receive the COVID-19 vaccine and 50 percent of subjects receive placebo," it added.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry stated that Covaxin is a two-dose anti-coronavirus vaccine and that the Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, who had volunteered for its phase-three trial, was given only the first dose."
"I have been tested Corona positive. I am admitted to Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt. All those who have come in close contact with me are advised to get themselves tested for corona," Anil Vij had tweeted after he tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, India’s total Active Caseload has dropped below 4.10 lakh (4,09,689) Saturday. This is the lowest after 136 days. The total active cases were 4,11,133, on July 22, 2020.
