IND vs NZ 1st Test Wellington: Kyle Jamieson had a dream debut bagging three wickets to leave India at 122/5 on the day 1 of the first Test at Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Friday. The 25-year-old fast bowler dismissed key players Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari by tea, after which the play could not resume due to heavy rain, forcing early stumps.
Kane Williamson won the toss and invited India to bat first on an extremely windy day. India found it difficult to score against the lethal bowling attack of New Zealand, especially in the second session, where it only scored 43 runs off 27 overs.
Indian openers – Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal endured another low score. Shaw (16) was bowled by Tim Southee by an out swinger. While Pujara (11) and Mayank Agarwal (34) were trying to click the ball, Jamieson bowled a beauty. Pujara was edged out by Jamieson, while Agarwal was dismissed by Trent Boult.
Jamieson’s second was even more amazing as he had Indian skipper Virat Kohli (2) who was driving away to edge the ball to Ross Taylor at first slip. New Zealand pacer Jamieson bagged his third wicket in the form of Hanuma Vihari (7).
Rishabh Pant was nowhere close to being comfortable but still he scored 10 runs off 37 balls. Currently, Ajinkya Rahane (38) and Rishabh Pant (10) are on the crease. Meanwhile, Ross Taylor has become the first player to play 100 international matches across all formats. The ongoing Test match at Basin Reserve happens to be the 100th Test match for Ross Taylor.
