New Delhi, July 2: In a slight uptick in new Covid 19 cases, India logged 17,092 fresh coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

According to the ministry, 29 coronavirus patients succumbed to the virus during this period. The death toll rose to 5,25,168. As many as 4,12,570 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of tests conducted so far in the country reached 86.32 crore. The weekly positivity rate is 3.56 per cent.
Under the nationwide vaccination drive, 9,09,776 Covid vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours. The total number of vaccine shots jabbed so far reaches 1,97,84,80,015.
In the new phase of the universalisation of the Covid 19 vaccination drive, the Union Government will procure and supply (free of cost) 75 per cent of the vaccines being produced by the vaccine manufacturers in the country to states and UTs.
Amid the recent surge reported in Covid-19 cases across the country, the Health Ministry of India on June 9 urged states and UTs to not lower their guards and strictly maintain Covid appropriate behaviour.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written a letter to states/UTs and directed them to ramp up RT-PCR testing, surveillance, clinical management, vaccination, Covid-19 protocols and take timely pre-emptive actions.
