Jammu and Kashmir, Shopian Encounter: 3 Terrorists gunned down

Jammu and Kashmir, Shopian Encounter: At least three terrorists were gunned down during an encounter with security forces in Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The encounter took place after security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in Wacchi area in the Shopian district after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area. https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1219168937788600320 Meanwhile, a police official stated that when the terrorists were asked to surrender, they opened fire that triggered an encounter. The official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying: ""In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed." The official said that he was a special police officer who abandoned the force in 2018 and absconded with seven AK assault rifles from the official residence of then MLA Wacchi Aijaz Ahmad Mir from Jawahar Nagar area of the city. However, three of them were affiliated to proscribed terrorist outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. J&K DGP Dilbag Singh said that "Today in Shopian we neutralised 3 terrorists. One of them, their commander Wasim Ahmed Wani was active since 2017 & was on a top position in Hizbul Mujahideen. He had 19 FIRs against him & was also involved in killing of 4 civilians and 4 cops."
