Karnal Mini-Secretariat gherao: Farmers refuse to budge till IAS officer suspended, other demands met

Karnal Mini-Secretariat gherao: A large number of farmers are staying put outside the gates of the Mini-Secretariat in Karnal since September 7 evening and are not ready to budge till their demands are met. They are adamant on their demand for action against IAS officer and former Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha, who had ordered a police lathicharge on farmers on August 28. Several farmers leaders spent the night outside the Mini-Secretariat. They would continue to gherao the Mini-Secretariat. Also read | Farmers’ stir: Haryana extends ban on mobile Internet, SMS services in Karnal The protesters are demanding that a compensation of Rs 25 lakh be released to next of kin of the deceased farmer, who fell victim to injuries sustained during the August 28 lathicharge, and job to one of his family members. Besides, Rs 2 lakh each be released as relief to the injured. The protesting farmers said they were ready for a long haul. Langars (community kitchen) are being organised at the protest site. Besides, tents are also being erected. On the other hand, according to a statement issued by the state government, Karnal District Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, Inspector General Of Police Mamta Singh and Superintendent of Police Gangaram Punia and other senior officials are still holding talks with the protesters. Also read | Air India’s Amritsar-Rome direct flight resumes from September 8 The Haryana Government on Monday announced the suspension of Internet and SMS services in Karnal, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind and Panipat districts from 12:30 am on September 8, ahead of Kisan Mahapanchayat in Karnal and the call to “gherao” the Mini-Secretariat by farmers in protest against police lathicharge against them on August 28.
