21 people including 2 pilots dead in Kozhikode plane crash incident in Kerala
Kerala Air India Dubai Kozhikode Flight Crash: At least 21 people including 2 pilots died after an Air India flight (IX-1344) from Dubai carrying 174 passengers skidded during landing at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode (Kerala) on Friday evening. A total of 149 injured passengers have been admitted to hospitals in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts while 22 are in critical condition. 22 have been discharged after first aid.
According to the Kondotty Police, a Dubai-Kozhikode Air India flight (IX-1344) skidded during landing at Karipur Airport at around 7.45 pm on Friday. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a detailed inquiry into the matter.
A Dubai-Kozhikode Air India Express flight fell down into the valley after landing at Runway 10 of Karipur Airport & broke down in two pieces. Visibility was 2000 meter at the time of landing, said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). MA Ganapathy, Special DG CISF, stated that "the incident occurred around 7:40 pm. Aircraft overshot the runway and fell off table-top, splitting into two. Over 40 CISF personnel, Quick Response Team & Chief Airport Security Officer reached in minutes & started evacuation with Airports Authority of India."
Meanwhile, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has recovered the Digital Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder from the aircraft. These will be brought to Delhi for further investigation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: "Pained by the plane accident in Kozhikode. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. Spoke to Kerala CM regarding the situation. Authorities are at the spot, providing all assistance to the affected."
Union Home Amit Shah said "Distressed to learn about the tragic accident of Air India Express aircraft in Kozhikode, Kerala. I have instructed NDRF to reach the site at the earliest and assist with the rescue operations." "Deeply distressed to hear about the tragic plane crash of Air India Express flight at Kozhikode, Kerala. Spoke to Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan & inquired about the situation. Thoughts & prayers with affected passengers, crew members & their families," said President Ram Nath Kovind.
Likewise, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said "Devastating news from Kozhikode, Kerala. I am deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to an accident carrying several passengers on Air India flight. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet: "Shocked at the devastating news of the plane mishap in Kozhikode. Deepest condolences to the friends and family of those who died in this accident. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured."
