Longowale battle hero, Brig Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri to be cremated with full military honours
Longowale battle hero ,Brig Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri will be cremated with full military honours at Cremation Ground, Sector 25, Chandigarh, on Monday. Punjab and Haryana Governor VP Singh bandore and Actor Sunny Deol will also reach at Brig Chandpuri cremation.
Brig Chandpuri (78) was suffering from cancer and was going under treatment at the Fortis Hospital in Mohali, Punjab for past years.
Kuldip Singh Chandpuri was a major in the Indian Army during the Longowale battle of 1971. Brig Chandpuri passed out from the Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, in 1963 and was commissioned into the 23rd Battalion of the Punjab Regiment. He took part in the 1965 war on the western sector .Brig Chandpuri was also awarded with the nation’s second highest gallantry award for his role at Longowale.
The 1997 Bollywood classic, Border, in which actor Sunny Deol played role of Brig Chandpuri, was made depicting Longewala battle.
