Manjinder Sirsa appeals to Kejriwal to honour gold medalists Manika Batra The Delhi MLA Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa has appealed the Kejriwal Government of Delhi to honour the gold medalists Manika Batra and Anthony Amalraj with cash awards on Haryana pattern to boost up the morale of the players of Delhi. Addressing a function here to honour Manika Batra and Anthony Amalraj both Table Tennis players who have won Gold medals in Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast, Mr. Sirsa who is President of Delhi Table Tennis Association and Vice President of Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) said that Manika Batra has brought laurels to Delhi as she has not only won Gold Medal but has infact won four medals which is a record in itself. He said that Kejriwal Government should honour the player on the pattern of Haryana Government and give Rs. 1.25 crores for Gold and other Medals which comes to about Rs. 4.25 Crores. He said that similarly Anthony Amalraj should also be honoured with cash award on same pattern as he has also won Gold Medal for Nation. He said that if the Kejriwal Government acts on his appeals it will further boost chances of both the players at the Asian and Olympic games. Mr. Sirsa said that honouring the achievers always motivates other budding players to work hard and do their best to make achievements at different levels of competitions. Speaking on the occasion Manika Batra said that she was happy to become first player of the country who has won four medals including Gold in Table Tennis for the nation. She said that it was her dream that she should also win a medal for the country and she should also be welcomed like heroes at airport and she was thankful to almighty who fulfilled her wishes. Turning emotional on the occasion, She said that she played with full confidence in the matches and when she won her Gold medal she slept with the medal whole night. Wishing Manika and Amalraj best of wishes for future competitions, the Speakers on the occasion lauded their achievements and said that country is passing through an atmosphere where sports achievers are encouraged to win medals for the country. They hoped that in future Indian sportspersons will scale new heights in not only CWG but Asian and Olympic games as well.
