Married her rapist, burnt by in laws; Chandigarh woman does FB live seeking help Already having suffered more than 50 per cent burns in an attack by her husband last year, a 25-year-old resident of Mani Majra escaped another bid on her life on August 31. She also took to social media site - Facebook to seek help from Chandigarh. Amrita Sharma’s husband Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Dhakoli near Zirakpur, allegedly stalked her in a Xylo car while she was going to the IT Park on her scooty and poured petrol on her near Bhainsa Tibba village and sped away, two days back. She said she had lodged a complaint in this connection with the Mansa Devi Complex police station on September 1. She claimed that she had also shown her petrol-soaked clothes to the police officials, who took these in their custody. Amrita alleged that instead of arresting the accused, the Panchkula police were now pressuring to take her complaint back. Giving details of the case, she said Gurvinder, who used to drive an Ola cab, had made friends with her. He offered her a sedative-laced soft drink and made physical relations with her. She alleged that Gurvinder made an MMS of the incident. She said when she lodged a complaint with the police last year, cops asked her to marry the accused as if the MMS went viral, only she would be defamed. She said she married the accused and soon after, his family members allegedly started harassing her for dowry. Amrita said she now came to know that Gurvinder had married again, which he could not do before getting divorce from her. She said he was following her continuously and threatening her so that she does not expose him. The 25-year-old said come what may, she would not take her complaint back. Karanbir, SHO, MDC police station, said they had registered a daily diary report (DDR) on Amrita’s complaint and were investigating the matter. He said the statements of the woman as well as the accused were being recorded. They were trying to contact the witnesses to the incident and also making efforts to get CCTV footage of the spot to know what had happened on the day of the incident.
