Minimum temperatures above normal in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh: Minimum temperatures remained above normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana today, even as several places in the two states received rainfall overnight. Amritsar was the coldest place in the two states with a minimum temperature of 9.6 degrees Celsius, the MeT office said here. While Karnal and Patiala recorded an identical minimum of 14 degrees Celsius, the mercury in Chandigarh settled at 14.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, it said. Ambala recorded its minimum at 14.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Ludhiana at 14.7 degrees Celsius, which was three notches above, the weatherman said. Minimum temperature in Hisar was 15 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal, it added. Patiala received 5.6 mm of rainfall followed by 55 mm in Ambala, 2.4 mm in Chandigarh, 1.5 mm in Karnal and 1 mm in Hisar. The MeT has predicted light to moderate rainfall at a few places in the region in the next 48 hours. Thunder squall with a wind speed exceeding 45 kmph and hail at isolated places in the two states is also likely, it said. — PTI
