161 packets of explosives found near school in Uttarakhand's Almora, probe on
PTC News Desk: Uttarakhand Police recovered 161 gelatin sticks — a strong explosive — from an area near a government school in Almora, prompting tight security and a thorough investigation.
The incident surfaced on Thursday evening when the principal of a Government Higher Secondary School informed the police that some children had noticed a suspicious object in the bushes while playing.
A police team quickly reached the spot, sealed off the area, and called in the bomb disposal squad and dog squad. The teams searched the location, seized the explosives, and collected samples. A case has been filed against unknown persons under the Indian Explosives Act. Almora SSP Devendra Pincha confirmed the recovery and said the inquiry is ongoing. He also urged people not to trust rumours and assured that verified updates would be shared.
“In Dabra village, about 161 gelatin sticks were found in bushes near the school. The local police arrived, called the bomb disposal squad, and conducted a detailed search. An FIR has been filed under relevant sections, and further investigation is in progress,” he stated.
Officials said gelatin sticks are usually used for blasting rocks during road construction. The SSP added that four investigation teams have been formed and the police are trying to find out who placed the explosives near the school and why.
This large recovery comes at a time when security agencies across India are already on high alert due to recent incidents — including the Red Fort blast and the earlier seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives near Al-Falah University in Faridabad.
On November 10, just hours after Delhi Police seized explosives from the Faridabad university and arrested doctors linked to it, a car filled with explosives and driven by Kashmiri doctor Dr. Umar Un Nabi exploded near the Red Fort, killing 15 people and injuring many others. Investigations confirmed it was a terror attack, uncovering a sophisticated “white-collar” terror network involving several doctors and professionals.
