Aaftab's family hidden somewhere; loopholes in investigation: Shraddha Walkar's father

Shraddha Walkar case: The family of Shraddha Walkar, a 27-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered and dismembered by her boyfriend Aaftab Poonawala, claims that loopholes in the investigation have led the case proceedings to be delayed. Shraddha's father, Vikas Walkar, further said that the accused's family is nowhere, claiming that they are "hidden somewhere."

“His (Aftab) parents are yet not highlighted. I think they have been hidden somewhere. Where are they? I appeal to highlight them,” Walkar added.

“We want to perform her (Shraddha) last rites and I have appealed for her body parts," he said.

The victim's father also sought the death penalty for the accused and alleged that the crime was committed with full planning.

“There are loopholes in the investigation and proceedings due to which the case is delayed. I have asked my lawyer to appeal for fast-track proceedings in the case,” he further said.

Notably, Aaftab's parents are avoiding media. The accused's family has received almost no coverage, further complicating the case.

Shraddha's father's comments come on the same day that a private television channel was barred from airing material pertaining to the Shraddha Walkar murder case after the Delhi police complained that the channel might broadcast details of accused Aaftab Poonawala's narcoanalysis test.

The police stated that disclosing a recording or transcript of the forensic examination would harm not just the prosecution's case but also the sentiments of the accused's and victim's families.

Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Kumar Singh directed the police to serve a copy of their request on the television channel, emphasising that the channel too needed to be heard thoroughly.

Poonawala allegedly killed his live-in partner, Walkar, on May 18 last year and chopped her body into several pieces, which he kept in a refrigerator for about three weeks at his apartment in Mehrauli, south Delhi.
