Congress president HS Lucky arrested for protesting house sealing in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, June 15: Tension and chaos prevailed among the Congress members as Chandigarh Police arrested Harmohinder Singh Lucky also known as HS Lucky , the president of the city's Congress party, along with other Congress leaders, workers, and protesters. 

The arrests took place during a demonstration against the sealing of houses in Ram Darbar Colony, Chandigarh.

The protest against the ongoing sealing of various colonies has been gaining momentum over the past few days. 

HS Lucky, while expressing his solidarity with the residents of Chandigarh, criticised the Chandigarh Administration for its lack of empathy. He said that, “Chandigarh administration should have a humane approach and stop the sealing drive and a policy should be framed to help the poor and needy.”

With the onset of monsoon approaching, HS Lucky raised concerns about the fate of the poor if their houses are sealed. He questioned the administration, asking where these individuals would go during the monsoon season.

The arrest of the city president highlight the ongoing tension between the Congress party and the Chandigarh Administration over the issue of house sealing. 

Few days ago, Congress also held a protest at Dadu Majra colony near the dumping ground site and raised slogans against Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation.

Addressing the protesters, Congress president HS Lucky said that residents in the vicinity of the dumping ground are suffering from multiple medical issues and health-related problems. Moreover, till date, no compensation had been paid to any person who fell ill due to the dumping ground.
