New Delhi, March 25: Congress workers on Saturday staged a protest in Wayanad over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Parliament.

The senior Congress leader was an MP from Wayanad.

Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday after a Surat court convicted him in a criminal defamation case in 2019. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Youth Congress halted the New Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi train at the Chandigarh railway station in protest of Rahul Gandhi's removal from Parliament.

In Bengaluru, Youth Congress workers decided to march to the Prime Minister's inauguration of a metro station.

Protesters were halted while marching to the Visvesvaraya metro station near Bengaluru's City Civil Court.

MVA MLAs in Maharashtra staged a silent protest outside the state assembly.

On Saturday, during his first press conference after his disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP, he stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government is afraid of his questions about Adani and that democracy is under attack.

Rahul Gandhi stated that he will not "back down" from raising questions about the Adani stocks, despite threats, disqualification, and prison sentences.

Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member on Friday, a day after a Surat court sentenced him to two years in prison in a defamation case filed against him over his statement about the "Modi surname."
