Covid 19 vaccine, heart attacks not linked, clarifies Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel

PTC Web Desk: In the Gujarat Assembly on Monday, Health Minister Rushikesh Patel claimed that there is no connection between the Covid-19 vaccine and deaths attributed to heart attacks. The clarification was made in response to a question posed by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala during the ongoing Budget session in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Khedawala sought the government's stance on a prevalent belief among citizens that recent heart attack-related deaths were linked to the Covid-19 vaccine or other medications.

Health Minister Rushikesh Patel unequivocally rejected the notion, deeming it "totally baseless." He emphasised that approximately 250 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been administered nationwide and stated, "Heart attacks are not caused because of any side effect of the vaccine. There is no relation between deaths due to heart attacks and the coronavirus vaccine."

Patel further elucidated that any potential decrease in lung capacity due to fibrosis, a serious lung disease associated with Covid-19, might lead to heart issues. However, he maintained that there is no direct connection between heart attacks and the coronavirus vaccine.

The health minister's response comes amid concerns raised by citizens regarding heart-related death, with speculations arising about potential vaccine side effects. Notably, Gujarat witnessed a series of deaths due to heart problems, including incidents during the Navratri festivities' garba events in October last year. The issue had prompted former Gujarat Chief Minister and current Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel to express her concerns during a public address.

The clarification from Health Minister Rushikesh Patel seeks to dispel misinformation and assure the public of the safety of Covid-19 vaccines. With a substantial number of vaccine doses administered across the country, the emphasis is on addressing misconceptions that may contribute to vaccine hesitancy.
