Debate, vote on motion to remove Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on March 9
PTC News Desk: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday announced that the debate and vote on the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will be taken up on March 9, the day the House reconvenes after its recess.
Rijiju said the second phase of the Budget Session, which will run from March 9 to April 2, is expected to be “interesting,” with several key legislations and a “critical” bill slated for discussion and passage. He cautioned that if Opposition parties persist with the kind of protests witnessed during the first phase, it could ultimately work against them.
“As per procedure, the no-confidence motion against the Speaker will be debated on the first day of the session in the Lok Sabha, followed by a vote,” Rijiju said.
The Budget Session commenced with the President’s address to a joint sitting of Parliament on January 28 and went into recess on February 12. The Union Budget 2026 was presented on February 1. The session is scheduled to resume on March 9 and conclude on April 2.
