Delhi woman found dead in car; live-in partner arrested for murder

PTC Web Desk: A 44-year-old woman was found murdered at her Chhawla residence in southwest Delhi, with the police alleging that her live-in partner killed her after a drunken fight over money. The incident came to light on Thursday.

According to investigators, the accused, Virendra (35), was heavily intoxicated when he allegedly pressed his elbow against the woman’s neck during an altercation on the night of November 25. Despite being inebriated, he managed to move her body to his car, apparently intending to dispose of it, but failed to drive due to his condition and returned home.

A senior police officer said a neighbour called the PCR on the morning of November 26 after noticing the woman’s body inside the parked car while Virendra was asleep inside the house.

The police said Virendra, who is married and has children, had been living with the woman for the last two years. The woman had earlier owned a house in Palam, which the couple sold. Using the proceeds, Virendra purchased a three-storey house in Chhawla under his own name in August. Another Rs 21 lakh from the sale was reportedly in his possession, leading to frequent clashes between them.

On the night of the incident, both were allegedly consuming alcohol when a heated argument broke out. Investigators said Virendra, who works with a bus company, overpowered the woman and choked her with his elbow. After the murder, he contacted two friends, a man and a woman, who allegedly helped him move the body to his vehicle.

While attempting to leave with the body, Virendra drove barely 100 metre before he returned due to his intoxication. He left the body in the car, went back upstairs, continued drinking and eventually fell asleep.

Around 9 am, a neighbour who assumed the couple were married spotted the body and alerted the police. Virendra was arrested from the house shortly afterward. The police are now searching for the two friends who allegedly assisted him.
